Sampson Britt Jr., affectionately known as “Hook”, was born on June 15, 1949, in Como, North Carolina, to the late Sampson Britt and Ida Virginia Hill Britt. He departed from this life on February 8, 2026, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 76.
In 1964, Sampson and his family moved to Bronx, New York, where he attended Metropolitan Vocational High School. There, he discovered a remarkable talent in electronics, which led to a career as an Appliance Technician with Sears & Robuck Company, where he worked for many years.
Sampson was deeply rooted in his faith, having been baptized at the Bronx Seventh-Day Adventist Church. His commitment to Christ was evident in his life, and he co-wrote the gospel song, “Jesus Is Coming Again.” He was an avid reader of the Bible and shared his faith with family, friends, and the community.
On May 21, 1971, Sampson enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a Medic at Fort Riley under the 5th U.S. Army. He completed a ten-week training course as a Medical Corpsman and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal before being Honorably Discharged.
Sampson was preceded in death by his parents, Sampson Britt and Ida Virginia Hill Britt, two brothers, Samuel Richard Britt and Joseph Britt, and three sisters, Rosa B. Byrd, Ida Mae Edwards, and Nancy Anne Clemons.
He is survived by nine sisters: Laura Smith of Como, North Carolina; Thelma Lewis of Spring Valley, New York; Donna Goodall of Schenectady, New York; Missionary Edna Edwards of Spring Valley, New York; Mildred Britt of Huntsville, Alabama; Margaret Woods (Emerson) of Central Islip, New York; Shirley Joseph (Vance) of Harlem, New York; Jessie Daphnis of Orlando, Florida; and Sharon Padilla (Clifton) of Houston, Texas; one brother, Pastor Harry Britt (Theresa) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and community loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.
Sampson’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the faith he boldly shared, and the love he gave so freely. His life was a testament to devotion to God, to family, and to his country. He will be deeply missed yet lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

To God be the Glory, may Brother Sampson rest in peace. May our family know that God never fails and he is in command of us all. May we continue to raise the praise to our Heavenly Father who protects and watches over us all!

Uncle would always say, “I’m praying for you and your family.” He had an appetite for the Word of God and a ravaging appetite for food he loved.
