Sandra J. "Sandy" Fenocchio

Sandra ?Sandy? Fenocchio passed peacefully at Sutter General Hospital on July 31, 2013, at the age of 75, with her husband of 53 years by her side. Her children, grandchildren, and sisters were ever present in body and spirit throughout her short, but brave battle with cancer. In passing, Sandy was filled with the love, support, and caring of her family and many friends.

A long-time resident of Davis, she was born Sandra Jeanne Summy on April 19, 1938, in Yuba City, California. She was the second of four daughters born to Clarence Aaron Summy and Dorothea Elizabeth (Blevins) Summy. In her early years, Sandy grew up in Yuba City and Kelseyville as part of a loving family actively involved in the Methodist Church and community affairs, where her father was a successful farmer and principal of Kelseyville High School. In 1945, Sandy?s family moved to Clarksburg where her father became principal/superintendent of schools. With a strong family focus on educational pursuits and achievement, Sandy excelled academically and blossomed as an outstanding, award-winning athlete. At Clarksburg High School, she was well known for her competitive tennis skills, winning championship tournaments throughout the county and surrounding areas. It was also in Clarksburg that Sandy met Floyd Fenocchio, her future husband, where both were actively involved in school activities, student government, and a variety of sports.

After high school graduation, Sandy attended the University of California at Davis (UCD) for one year, and then transferred to California State University at Sacramento (CSUS) where Floyd was a student. Both graduated together from ?Sac State? in 1960 and were married shortly thereafter on June 26. Sandy and Floyd lived several years in Sacramento where they both taught elementary school. They were blessed with two children, Dianna and Dan, while living in Sacramento, but moved to Davis in 1967. Sandy chose to remain home to care for the children and behind the scenes in her support of Floyd in his career in public school administration.

Sandy found great joy and satisfaction in being involved with her children?s activities, education, spiritual training, social events, and athletics, while she and Floyd fostered strong family values. She never missed school performances, Dianna?s swim meets, or Dan?s games in football, basketball, and baseball. That same devotion and support for ?sports? carried on to the activities of grandsons Daniel and Jonah. Sandy is well known for her love of keeping score and tracking the players? ?stats? at baseball games.

In addition to her devotion to family, Sandy was also a long-time member of a couples dine-out/bridge group, as well as a ladies bridge group. For the last 30 years, she was employed seasonally as a Senior Tax Accountant at H&R Block in West Sacramento. She was not only highly respected for her mathematical and financial skills, but was also an avid reader, and provided countless acts of service to others without the wish for recognition or acknowledgement. Sandy is remembered as a beloved, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to so many. Everyone who knew her has benefitted from her kindness, warmth and sweetness, generosity to family and friends, and positive influence. She will be missed, but never forgotten.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Floyd Fenocchio, daughter Dianna Lynn (Fenocchio) Henrickson, son-in-law Mark Edward Henrickson, son Daniel Aaron Fenocchio, daughter-in-law Lesley Anne (Fildes) Fenocchio, grandsons Daniel Scott Henrickson and Jonah Edward Henrickson (all living in Davis), sisters Sheila (Summy) Messick in Marysville, Sharon (Summy) Howard in Yuba City, and Linda (Summy) Porter-Kinney in Yuba City, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Sandy is predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Dorothea (Blevins) Summy. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 5, at 10:00 a.m. at the Davis Cemetery at 820 Pole Line Road. Pastor Dan Britts from University Covenant Church is officiating at the service, which is open to anyone who wishes to attend.

The Fenocchio family expresses its thanks to the medical staff at Sutter Hospital and Sutter Cancer Center in Sacramento, as well as the outstanding caregivers at Bridgeway Care in West Sacramento. A special thanks is extended to Dr. Deepti Behl, Sandy?s oncologist, for her dedicated care, encouragement, and support to the family. Most of all, the Fenocchio?s thank all those family members and friends who continually supported Sandy with cards, notes, letters, prayers, and positive thoughts throughout her illness.
