Shayna Bergey Obituary

With great sadness and much love, the family of Shayna Janae Bergey, announce her sudden passing on December 4, 2021 at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Shayna was born in Sellersville, PA. to Lowell C. and Gloria J. (Knechel) Bergey. Shayna was 23 years old and resided with her family in Hatfield, PA.

Shayna was homeschooled from K through 12th grade and graduated in 2016. She then attained her Associate’s degree in Business Management from Montgomery County Community College. Currently, Shayna was a student at West Chester University where she was anticipating the 2022 completion of her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Computer Science, with a minor in Human Resources.

Shayna learned the value of a good work ethic early in life. At a young age, she began working regularly on her Uncle’s family farm, milking cows. Shayna embarked on her career at Chick-fil-A in Lansdale, 7 ½ years ago, where she excelled and obtained the rank of IT Director. She also worked as a Chick-fil-A Corporate grand opening trainer, where she traveled across the country helping others succeed in the business she loved. Shayna also enjoyed babysitting whenever she had the opportunity and availability in her busy schedule. Previously, Shayna had worked as a call center agent for Harriet Carter Gifts in Montgomeryville, PA.

Shayna was an active member of Towamencin Mennonite Church where she faithfully served as a sound, video and projection technician. She also participated on the worship team by singing or playing the flute. Shayna was actively involved with multiple aspects of VBS and assisted in Sunday School. Shayna had a great love for children and many times would be seen at church activities with a baby in her arms. She had a passion for serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved to invite people to come to her church for Sunday worship services as well as other church events. Additionally, Shayna served in Immanuel Leidy's drama productions of Judgment House.

Shayna loved music, and sang in Sola Gratia Musicians’ Choir for 9 years. Shayna’s expressive personality was known to frequently burst forth in song. Sometimes these were fun, silly songs, and other times they were deeply-moving Christian songs being sung from her heart and often accompanied by her elegantly flowing and beautifully expressive sign language.

Shayna loved water sports: wakeboarding, slalom skiing, swimming and surfing on the FlowRider. She was an exceptionally talented and creative hair stylist, specializing in hair braiding and design. She was skilled as a locksmith, as well as other various aspects of technology. Shayna enjoyed farm work, including corn harvesting, and had a strong interest in increasing her Spanish-speaking skills. She enjoyed crocheting, shopping and visiting various specialty coffee shops, as well as going to the beach in the summer and snow skiing in the winter. Over the past 15 months, she loved spending time with her boyfriend and anticipated fiancé, Dylan Raley.

Shayna was an energetic, generous, sassy, enthusiastic, genuine, determined young woman who had dazzling blue eyes, a playful sense of humor, a contagious smile and a passionate love for God. She will be greatly missed by all who love her.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Gladys G. Knechel of Harleysville, PA; her sisters, Ashley D. Bergey of Souderton, PA, Natasha L. Bergey, Leisha R. Bergey and her brother, Jonathan Luke Bergey, all of Hatfield, PA, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Shayna was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Harold A. Knechel and her paternal grandparents, Horace S. and Ruth R. Bergey.

Family, friends and others who have been touched by Shayna’s life, are invited to visit the family on Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm or from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm. A memorial service in honor of Shayna’s life and the love her family and friends have for her will be held, following the Visitation on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at 7:00 pm. These services will be at Franconia Mennonite Church, 613 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA, 18969.  If you are unable to attend this special service in person, Livestream options will be available through

Our hearts and prayer are with you during this time of indescribable loss and heartache. I didn’t have the opportunity to get to know shayna well but distinctly remember talking with her last summer and being inspired by her love for others and her enthusiasm for enjoying and embracing life. May God’s grace be the strength that carries you through the days ahead.
The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms. Deuteronomy 33:27

I have no words. How could I possibly know what to say. My heart hurts so much for you both, for her sisters and brothers, for her fiancé, and the rest of her extended family. I'm sure you have heard every encouraging word anyone could possibly say, all I can tell you is each time she comes to mind my got wrenches all over again I am so sobered by what you are going through. please except my heart for you. I haven't stopped thinking about this since I heard of it. I love you both so much, you are amazing parents your children are proof of that. You know she is waiting for all of you in heaven and her uncles and aunts welcomed her. I will continue to think about both of you in the coming days and weeks knowing that this is going to be a very very long process that will never fully be over will just change. So my heart is with you. Dawn

What a precious gift from God! I will never forget this beautiful (inside and outside) young woman as she would come to help or watch her grand pop get physical therapy when I was at his home. Oh, how I loved her heart for the Lord and people. My deepest sympathy to you her family!
With much love and prayer for all of you!
