Shirley Jean Mazac was called home to her Lord and Savior on November 11, 2022. She passed away at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Round Rock, Texas, after a lengthy illness.
Shirley was born to Gus A. (Mike) Wendland and Albertina (Betty) Dlouhy Wendland on October 11, 1936 in Taylor Texas.
She grew up on her family farm in the small farming community of San Gabriel where she attended primary school followed by graduation at Thorndale High School in Thorndale, Texas and Durham Business School in Austin, Texas. While in business school, she worked at Scarboroughs in downtown Austin, followed by Harkins Insurance, and Fisher and Hafernick Insurance in Taylor.
Shirley married the love of her life, Raymond John Mazac on August 18, 1956, and the two remained happily married for over 55 years. Together they raised two caring daughters and were later blessed with two wonderful grandsons and a precious great granddaughter who brought much joy into her life.
Throughout her life, Shirley was also blessed with a loving and supportive church family. In the Taylor Brethren Church, Shirley was baptized as an infant, confirmed as a young adult, and later served as a Sunday School Teacher, held many positions within the Christian Sisters, and was a member of the Board of Elders. Shirley was actively involved in many church bar‑b‑ques and fundraisers, including the locally famous Christian Sisters Kolache Bakes. Shirley enjoyed attending church conventions and church retreats. For over 35 years of church services, Shirley and husband Raymond filled the same pew on Sundays.
Shirley was a member of the Future Homemakers of America and the Business and Professional Women clubs.
Throughout her life she enjoyed boating, traveling by car on long trips across the U.S, and a good game of 42 dominos with family and dear friends which often lasted until 2 o’clock in the morning.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Mazac, her parents, Gus A. and Albertina Wendland, and her brother, Daniel Wendland.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Sandra Ging and husband James, Karen Peschke and husband Walter, grandsons Brandon Keith Peschke, James Bradley Ging and wife Sierra, great granddaughter Hadley Ging, her sister‑in‑law Irene Wendland‑Lancaster and husband Bob Lancaster, sister‑in‑law Elizabeth Orr and husband Robert, as well as loving and caring cousins and dear friends.

We had so many good times growing up. I always loved going to the farm, especially in the early days when there were no inside conveniences--Shirley and I would always go together-safety in numbers, especially when you had a little brother like Sonny to play tricks on you when you least expected them. My dear Aunt Bettie and Uncle Mike were the best!! Good times were also had at our Grandma and Grandpa Wendland's
house. We played till we couldn't go anymore and always enjoyed the good food Grandma prepared. I will always love Shirley and she will be missed. We shared October birthdays--mine the 5th and hers the 11th.
She was older than me, but just like a sister--we were a close family. Love to Sandra and Karen and their families. May God bless you forever. Barbara Wendland Gillett
