1934 – 2018
New Hartford, CT – Shirley E. Muscaro, 84, died Thursday in St. Francis Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born and raised in West Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School and moved to Connecticut in the early 1980’s. She worked as a waitress at Friendly’s, Jack August Restaurants and the Golf Club of Avon. Upon her move to Connecticut, she became a pilot and was one of the founding members of Valley Airways, Inc. which is now the Simsbury Airport. She flew single engine planes and won a contest to name the “Beechcraft Skipper”. An avid contest enthusiast, she won a trip to the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics (former Yugoslavia). She was a former communicant of St. Catherine’s of Siena Church, enjoyed square dancing and loved to roller skate in her younger years. She was predeceased by two children Anne Marie Clark and Robert Kernan II. She leaves her children Mark, Laura and Scott Kernan; a brother Donald Muscaro; five grandchildren: Shirley Ann, Tara, Tony, Kelli and Christie; and 9 great grandchildren. Besides her children she was also predeceased by siblings Vincent and Marian. Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday from 4:00 – 7:00pm. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2:00pm in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield. For more details please visit curranjones.com. will always cherish the years our families would spend together at the lake and the sundays at your house. i wonder how you made it thru with all us cousins together! so much fun sleeping there and swimming and the dogs too. you are in my heart forever. love debi

I will miss everything about her. I had wished,when I became friends with daughter Laura,that Shirley had been my mom. She was beautiful,kind,intelligent.Her love for her children was unbreakable. She was a strong, hard worker. Also, I will miss her homemade meatballs ! Love Always, Donna.
