Stanley “Stash” Kwapick, age 76, longtime resident of Willow River, MN died peacefully on Thursday, December 5th, 2019 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born at home in Split Rock Township, MN on June 1st, 1943 to Andrew and Rose (Michog) Kwapick.
Stash grew up in the area, along with his 10 siblings, attending school through the 8th grade in Moose Lake. At age 20, he began his career driving truck for Brenny-Dahl Block Company in Cloquet. Stash married the love of his life, Barbara Kiminski, in St. Isidore’s Catholic Church of Sturgeon Lake on January 19th, 1963. After a work accident in 1977, Stash became disabled, but that didn’t stop him from working and playing hard. Stash loved hunting, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, making hay, and farming. He enjoyed the time he spent playing cribbage, smear, and other card games with many friends and family members through the years. Two of the things that brought Stash the greatest joy were attending auctions and derbying with his sons and grandsons. He was also passionate about the time and effort he devoted to the Northern Pine Riders Association. Stash will be remembered as stubborn, bull-headed, and the Master of Debate, yet a true family man. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and son – all roles he took seriously and was so good at.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Rose; beloved son, Robert; and 8 siblings.
Stanley will be missed dearly by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; children, Jim (Mary) Kwapick, Dale (Michelle) Kwapick, David (Nancy) Kwapick, Stan (Ruth) Kwapick, Steve (Laura) Kwapick, Sharon (DuWayne) Gunderson, and Debbie (Bill) Eaton; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank and Florian Kwapick; sister-in-law, Marcella Kwapick; brother-in-law, Gene Kuhlman; and too many nieces, nephews, and friends to name.
In the interest of public health, we will be cancelling the Celebration of Life for Stanley "Stash" Kwapick. We will re-access and announce a later time and venue. Thank you for your understanding.
