1952-2021 Stephen Hugh “Bogey” Ryan, 68, of Wallingford, PA, passed away peacefully in his home on June 19th, 2021. Born in Chester, PA, Bogey’s larger than life personality was felt and heard by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A graduate of Chester High School and Widener University. He was self-employed and owner of Bogey’s Pintables. Bogey lived life to the fullest and would sing his way into anyone’s heart. He was a teller of stories, who had a voice of an angel. He had the ability to capture a room with his presence and make anyone around him a friend. He was a Delaware County Hall of Fame inductee, an amazing baseball and basketball player, avid golf player, member at Springhaven Club for 30 years, and overall phenomenal athlete. He was drafted and played minor league baseball for the San Francisco Giants following his graduation from Widener University. Anyone who knew Bogey knew his love for traveling to his favorite place on Earth…Ireland. He visited 48 times over the span of 20+ years. It was there he made his mark as serving as the Grand Marshall of the St. Patrick’s Day parades for more than a decade. Most importantly, Bogey’s unwavering love for his wife, his cherished dogs George, Harold, Hughie, and Gert, and the bond he shared with his daughter, was undeniable. They were his world, and he will continue to be that for them. Preceded in death by his father, John “Snapper” Ryan, and mother, Dorothy Blizzard Ryan. He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie “Tootie” Ryan, and his daughter, Katie Ryan. His sister, Cheryl Pompilii (Sonny).

I knew Steve since Stetser Elementary , Smedley Junior High School, and Chester High School. He was witty and funny. He was a friend to anyone who knew him. He and Fred Chazin were like 2 peas in a pod. They were like a comedy team. Steve was on the baseball team at CHS. He excelled in this extra- curricular activity. He and Tootie were high school sweethearts. She attended Notre Dame in Moylan. I was introduced to her when she came to visit one day at the high school. She actually came and attended classes with us on one particular day. Steve and she were so perfect for each other. They were blessed with many happy years of marriage. Condolences to Tootie and Katie. May his memory live on. Nadine Buzgon Abowitz Lititz, Lancaster County, formerly from Chester, CHS Class of 1970

Oh man, I was so lucky to have crossed Stephens path in our " glory days " with Tinicum AC!! I loved the man. He came back from the minors with a SF Giants batting helmet. So cool. Sad that he's gone, whew, but what a life well lived.

So very sorry to hear about the passing of Steve. Our families have been friends since I was born. He was Stevie Ryan to me and I have so many fond childhood memories of the Ryan family. Stevie ALWAYS had a smile on his face and a joke up his sleeve! His laugh was infectious. To say that he was larger than life is an understatement! He will be missed by many. Tootie and Katie, I'll keep you in my prayers during this difficult time.

Joe and I had the privilege of getting to know Steve. We had that Irish-connection. And though our plan to see the “real Ireland” with Steve as our guide didn’t happen, one day God-willing if we do, we will toast the life & legacy of our friend. Tootie & Katie, our thoughts and prayers are with you both at this sorrowful time. Our prayers are that one-day, as your pain eases, thinking of Bogey puts a smile on your face and replaces tears. God bless you both and eternal rest grant unto Steve.

His personality was bigger than the man himself undeniable. Bogey will be sorely missed by all who know him. Tootie and Katie find strength in the countless memories of Bogey as a father and husband, impromptu singer, story teller and all around great guy...
