Susan “Sue” Canino Miesse, 66, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, in Aurora, Colorado. Born in Denver on July 13, 1959, she was a lifelong resident of Colorado and remained deeply connected to the people and places that shaped her life.
Sue was the cherished “middle” sister in a large and loving Italian family. She lived with quiet grace and a gentle spirit, never seeking attention but always offering steady support. Her compassion was expressed in subtle, meaningful ways—through her thoughtfulness, her loyalty, and her deep care for others.
From a young age, Sue displayed natural athleticism and a spirited sense of competition. She attended Smoky Hill High School in Aurora, where she excelled both in the classroom and on the field. Her love for sports continued into college and remained a lifelong passion. Whether participating or cheering from the sidelines, Sue found fulfillment and connection through sports.
Professionally, Sue dedicated herself to the food service industry, working in groceries stores and family restaurants—primarily as a baker. She brought diligence and quiet pride to her work, earning the respect of colleagues and customers alike.
Sue’s compassion extended far beyond her professional life. She was deeply loyal to her friends and family, building relationships rooted in trust, empathy, and shared experience. Among her most treasured connections were lifelong friendships with former coaches, teammates, and colleagues. One of the most enduring was with Kathy Francis Nunnery, a bond spanning more than fifty years and reflecting Sue’s capacity for deep and lasting connection.
A true Colorado sports fan, Sue was known for her deep knowledge and unwavering support of the Broncos and Rockies. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and her love for the game brought people together.
Sue’s greatest pride was her family—especially her sons, Eric Miesse and Alec Miesse. She remained their most devoted supporter through every phase of life, and they, in turn, were fiercely devoted to her.
In addition to Eric and Alec, Sue is survived by her siblings: Kim Lott (Jeff), Joni Jones (Ken), Mark Canino (Rhonda), Julie Alcorn (Don), Regina Montgomery (Dave), Chris Canino (Kristine), and Nicole Salz (Jason); and by Renate Canino and Deb Dowling Canino, along with several nieces and nephews and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gayle Walter and her father, Roland Canino.
Sue’s legacy is one of quiet grace, heartfelt compassion, and enduring love. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
An open house celebration of Sue’s life will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 11:00am-2:00pm at Greenfield Clubhouse, 20601 E. Fair Ave., Centennial, CO 80016. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Support Sue's Memorial and Cremation Costs.

Sue, I wish I had stayed in closer contact with you over the years. But although we were not together, I thought of you often. We had the very best times in high school and I cherish those memories! You were a very good friend, great team mate and so much fun to be with! I know your family is missing you. You were a Godsend to Kathy and she won’t be the same without you!

I knew Sue as a teammate in volleyball, basketball and track my freshman through junior years at Smoky Hill. Sue was all business in practice and at events. She drove this awesome VW Bug and we were all catching rides from her. Condolences to her sons, Kathy, close friends and family.

Rest (or maybe play all out!) in peace my friend. You were my mentor and role model when I met you as a freshman in high school. Soooo many fun memories of volleyball, basketball, softball, working track meets for Kathy in CoS, working together at Piccolo's, racing cars up Monaco Pkwy after work, parties, being roommates, and living life's ups and downs. Though we didn't stay connected the last few years you always have and always will hold a special place in my heart.

What a beautiful tribute to Sue. She was the most giving and kind person. I’m proud to say she has been my friend since sophomore year at Smoky Hill. We had so many adventures and great times with all our friends. My heart breaks for her sons, her siblings, Kathy and her tribe of friends. I hope to attend her celebration of life.

Susan, my chum always a steady friend. I am sad to hear the news of your passing. My heartfelt wish for you is great peace and the health of the great athlete you once were. Shortstop extraordinaire. The only person I ever knew that knew the name of every single song ever played on the radio! We had many laughs and game nights. You have left a hole in my heart my chum. May sGod bless you and hold you close.
