Celebrating The Life and Legacy

 of

Mrs. Sybil Lorraine Bunckley Comeaux

Sybil Lorraine Bunckley Comeaux, 84, of Beaumont, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
Her sudden passing has left our family heartbroken, and her warm larger-than-life presence will be missed by us and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Sybil was born in Jasper, Texas March 21,1941, the only daughter of Theo Bunckley and
Cora Lee Wynn Bunckley.
As a student of life, always learning and curious about the world, Sybil completed her secondary education at Charlton-Pollard High School in 1957, followed by her undergraduate studies at Huston-Tillotson College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She attained her master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Prairie View A&M University in 1972. In 1977, she earned a certification in Administration and Supervision.

Sybil married Milburn Vernon "Bubba" Comeaux sixty-three years ago. From this beautiful union came two children, Vernon and Kimberly.
Sybil’s devotion to education was truly exceptional. During her remarkable fifty-two years with the Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) and 55 years in education she touched countless lives in her roles as teacher, counselor, dean of students, assistant principal, principal,
and ultimately Executive Director of Personnel before retiring in 2014. True to her warm spirit and zest for life, Sybil embraced retirement not with quiet rest, but with joyful trips to visit her family—continuing to share the same energy and love that defined her life.

She was a second generation, lifelong, and active member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of the Finance Committee. Sybil, naturally skilled in design and décor was instrumental in the planning of the exterior and interior of the church. She and her mother led the seasonal decorations changes for more than 50 years.
Sybil expanded her creative talents as the owner of Sugar and Spice, a wedding planning and
cake-baking business. Through her elegant designs, exquisite cakes, and calming presence, she
touched the lives of countless couples.

Sybil proudly strolled in pink and green for 67 years as a devoted member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. After pledging the Beta Kappa Chapter at Huston–Tillotson College in 1958, she continued her service as a member of the Alpha Omega Omega Chapter in Beaumont, Texas, and was honored as a Pearl Soror in 2023. She is now an Ivy Beyond the Wall, with a legacy that will live on through future sorors.
Preceding Sybil in death are her parents, Theo and Cora Bunckley, and Clarence Bunckley (brother).
These words cannot simply sum up the life of such a beautiful and courageous person, yet it is a glimpse into knowing her. Remaining to cherish Sybil’s memory are Milburn "Bubba" Comeaux (husband), son, Vernon Comeaux (Tammie); daughter, Kimberly Comeaux Boudreaux (Tom); Delores Comeaux Babino (sister-in-law); Kaylon Cartlidge (David), Taylor Comeaux; Cydney Boudreaux, Michael Boudreaux (grandchildren), Camille Cartlidge, Calise Cartlidge (great grandchildren); Erica Babino (niece), Jonathan Babino (nephew), Angie Babino Joubert (niece), great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

“Your legacy is every life you’ve ever touched.”

Prayers and condolences to the family of Mrs. Comeaux. She was a true blessing in my life. She not only hired me as a very young teacher, she mentored my growth into a knowledgeable and experienced professional. She, along with Mrs. Bill, were instrumental in my ability to celebrate Silver Star status in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated next year. Years later, as personnel director, she gave me an opportunity to teach at Central High School again, where I made lasting friendships with many. I am thankful for her life, spirit, and lasting imprint that she made on a multitude of lives.
