Syed Ahmed Hussaini, age 40 of Chicago. Beloved son of Nigdia Noorani; dear brother of Iliana Cardona McKittrick and Nadil Noorani, brother-in-law to Glendon Runk and Gabriella Hernandez. Loving uncle to Colin and Maya McKittrick, and Isabella Noorani. Cherished ‘dad’ of two fur-babies, Xena and Harley.
Ahmed had some major influences in his life outside of family. He sought figures that inspired him and which he would emulate. Just as our family is diverse and eclectic, so too were those that he would look up to. He would pull from Miyamoto Musashi, Sun Tzu, 2pac, Hunter S. Thompson, Ghandi, and The Buddha just to name a few. This would enable him to cover a wide variety of subjects when interacting with people from all walks of life. It didn’t matter if he was discussing religion with a theologian, pharmaceuticals with the local pharmacist, theoretical physics with a physicist, or indiscriminate barking with his puppies; he could hold an interesting conversation with ease. He was never short of opinions or sharing how he felt about yours. He had infectious passions, an unforgettable smile, and a bigger than life personality that was hard to miss in a crowded room. Children and animals always gravitated to his big heart; the same big heart that always had him rooting for the underdog. Everyone who knew Ahmed has at least one story with or about him as that kind of personality is unforgettable. He gave us all a piece of his mind, and soul, which we now carry. Those memories will live on within each of us.

I met him at Urban Innovations when I worked for Mike Joss on the 4th floor of 440 N Wells in the late ‘90s. He was barely an adult but was serious about doing a great job. Our friendship continued to the present day. Ahmed will be missed. He was a good man that cared deeply about this world and people. His authenticity, sincerely, and empathy were remarkable and I will never forget him.

It’s impossible to describe Ahmed with words. He was one of those people that make the world better by just existing. He was intelligent, and caring, and goofy and so much more. He was one of my favorite people to have a conversation with because it was never boring or superficial. He was one of those rare people that was just real. He had a contagious smile. He was such a good friend and he will be missed by many.

Ahmed was unlike anybody else on this Earth, in the best of ways. I remember meeting Ahmed (twice), and each time he made me feel like I was the most interesting, funny, and smartest person he had ever met. He made everyone feel that way. He was fierce, and a fighter. He was fearless and defiant towards anyone that he thought would disrespect the people he cared about. He was sweet and kind. He was always brining the mood of the room up and inviting everyone around to come and enjoy life with him. He never made me feel bad or unwanted. He was never boring. He taught me so many things about Chicago and its people. He had so many amazing stories: some good, some terrifying; of his life and adventures. He knew everyone every where we would go. He would say his name and people had already heard of him. He was a legend. He was my friend.

I met Ahmed in 2011 when I moved to my first-ever apartment in Chicago, where he was my neighbor for 6 unforgettable years. We instantly became great friends - part of my family. We shared countless memories that I will forever cherish. I will miss his funny voice, his wild stories, and our one-of-a-kind friendship. I hope everyone who knew and loved Ahmed finds peace, healing, and light during this dark time. May your beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. Goodbye, my friend.

One of the things I admired most about Ahmed was that he was always himself, unapologetically. He was imaginative, fun, funny, curious, open hearted, and the kind of friend who would always lend a helping hand when you needed him. He will be missed by many. In our conversations over the years, one constant I always saw was how much Ahmed loved his mom, his sister, and his brother. I wish them peace and healing in the months to come.
