Sylvia Ann Cypcar, 82 of Chicago passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023 at Rainbow Resurrection Hospice in Chicago of a serious illness. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Julia (nee Banicki) Cypcar and her sister Dorothy “Bubsie" Cypcar. Sylvia was cherished by her loving uncle the late Raymond Banicki with whom Sylvia lived for most of her life. She was the beloved niece of deceased aunts and uncles Leopold “Leo" ( Bernice) Banicki, Stephanie (Fred) Gorczyca, Henry (Marian) Banicki, Steve “Pete" Banicki, and Richard (Esther) Banicki. Sylvia was the beloved niece of Dorothy (Edward) Panszczyk of Lindenhurst, IL. She was the treasured cousin of Nancy (David) Imundo and Michael Banicki both of whom cared for Sylvia and Minnie during her struggle with cancer. She was the fond cousin of Robert (the late Sally) Gorczyca, Ray (Marianna) Gorczyca, Roger (the late Jan) Banicki, Leroy (Cynthia) Banicki, Douglas (Cathy) Banicki, Joseph (Robin) Banicki, Cathy Reich, James (Paula) Banicki, Linda Panszczyk, and Laura (Nick) Trnka. She was the fond second and third cousin, including once and twice removed of over 25 plus family members located throughout the country. Sylvia was lovingly dedicated throughout the years for her five Beagle dogs, each named Minnie; the current Minnie has the special qualities of each of them. Sylvia enjoyed watching her favorite television programs with Minnie at her side. She was employed at AT&T for 35 years during which she became close life long friends with coworkers. She was a friendly neighbor and remarked frequently just how much she was grateful for their company. One of Sylvia's hobbies was to photograph people who were close to her. She created albums with hundreds of these photos. She travelled to interesting places and she recently mentioned England was her favorite. Sylvia had regular weekly, and even daily calls with family and friends just to check and be sure everyone was well. She loved dining out and shopping. Sylvia was the one who would coordinate and host family holiday gatherings, especially Christmas Eve. A fact not widely known is that in her younger years she had the nickname Cookie. Those that knew her remember her captivating, unique and memorable laugh; she was always smiling. Sylvia was a kind, friendly, sweet and lovable woman with a keen sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by family, extended relatives, friends and dear neighbors for whom Sylvia enriched their lives. She is at peace.

I will miss Sylvia more than I can say. I was her aunt at age four and, when both of her parents passed away when she was young, she became my real sister when my parents adopted her and her sister Dorothy (Bubsie). After that, she was raised as my little sister. For 65 years, Sylvia called me every day and we'd have long conversations about everything and everyone. Every day she phoned even leaving a hello on my machine if she missed me. Even now when I come home I am waiting for her phone call. God, how I will miss her. When Sylvia was ill, such as a wound after surgery that wouldn't heal, she came and stayed with us for weeks . A nurse came over to teach me how to care for it and I did it, willingly. The nurse said that maybe I should go to nursing school because I took care of her so much. Oh the fun we had!! Not to mention many trips together. We traveled together all around the U.S., including fun trips with Sylvia to Disney World, San Francisco, Denver, Boston, Las Vegas, and Tunica. Everything and everywhere I went Sylvia came with me. I will deeply miss her and really, she is the last of my family who really knew me as we were growing up, so.now, with her passing, everyone in my family is gone. God bless you Sylvia. Never will I have a little sister like you. Rest in peace, you deserve it.
Your loving Aunt/sister Dorothy

Sylvia's passing leaves a big hole in my heart. I will miss her every day of my life. Every day with Sylvia was an adventure and, no matter what, you knew that she cared about you.
Growing up on the first floor of the family home, with Sylvia, her sister Bubsie, our Busia, and our uncles Pete and Ray living in the upstairs flat was a kid's dream come true. Every day was a fun day. Listening to her record albums, from Johnny Horton's Greatest Hits to showtunes like Bye Bye Birdie and Oklahoma, going to local parish carnivals, and shopping. With Sylvia, she was always shopping, and I eagerly went along.
As I got older, we went on bus trips, such as to Galena, and to Wrigley Field for Cubs games. Lots and lots of Cubs games.
One favorite thing we did was shopping downtown on the day after Thanksgiving (before it was called Black Friday). I think my mother was on pins and needles every year til we got home but I enjoyed seeing all the decorated store windows and just plain spending time with Sylvia. It was an adventure.
We also went to a lot of stage theaters and saw Broadway shows downtown. Oh, how Sylvia loved going to those, along with lunch or dinner, of course. Sylvia absolutely loved Broadway musicals.
Then, we started travelling together to Europe, Canada, and across the U.S. Again, every trip was an adventure. Our first trip by plane together was to Philadelphia to see the Liberty Bell. Later, we travelled all over Europe, from England, France, and Germany, to Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Even to Liechtenstein where we met the prince!! Other trips around the U.S. and Canada, such as to Disney World, Disneyland, Phoenix, San Francisco, New York City, Denver, Montreal, and Toronto.
One favorite trip was with a baseball tour group where we travelled to 7 Midwestern ballparks on a bus tour. I was more of the baseball fan but Sylvia, as friendly as she always was, talked to everyone on the bus and had a great time. Loved those ballpark hot dogs, too.
Eventually, we started going to casinos all over the Midwest and beyond, from nearby Rivers in Rosemont, Harrah's in Joliet, and the Grand Vic in Elgin to others a little farther away, like Oneida in Green Bay or Ho-Chunk in Baraboo, to more distant ones, like Atlantic City, Tunica, and Vegas. She loved going to the casinos, eating their buffets and seeing their stage shows. She was definitely a fun-loving cousin.
There was no one else like Sylvia. God bless her.

Each time I think of the many, many Christmases spent with Sylvia and all the rest of the family, I am comforted by the warmth of her smile and the love she gave to everyone. To say I'lll miss her just doesn't seem enough. She's in my heart, she was a part of me.
