Thomas Hall, II Obituary

HALL II, THOMAS WELLS: Age 90 of Clarkston, MI was Promoted to Glory on October 20, 2023. He was born Nov 6, 1932 in Morristown New Jersey and was the beloved Husband of Loraine for over 60 years, who recently preceded him in Death, Father of Thomas Jackson Hall (Edith) of White Lake and James Philip Hall, who also preceded him in death (Jenny, Eve). The Grandfather of Thomas Charles Hall of Highland MI and David James Hall of Linden MI. His parents were Philip and Lenna Mae Hall formerly of Plainfield New Jersey.

Tom was an Engineering graduate of Yale University and accomplished a long career in the Product Engineering Department of the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors. Throughout his career, he managed all of the Engineering Test and Laboratory Departments including assignments at the locations of Pontiac Engineering, Milford Proving Grounds and the GM Tech Center as well as accomplishing several patents. Tom also served in the US Army in the 1950’s.

Tom was a long and avid Pilot, logging time over 50 years. He was also a Flight Instructor, teaching many students to fly including his son Thomas. One of his airplanes was honored as Type Champion at the EAA Oshkosh annual Air Venture they attended for more than 30 years.

Tom was a more than 60-year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pontiac where together with his wife Loraine, served in many capacities including Deacons, Elders and Board of Trustees.

Tom enjoyed any and all projects with his hands including the construction of their Homestead Barn, a vacation property up north as well as many mechanical projects including the restoration of many old Pontiacs, his classic airplane, and even built from scratch a functioning Steam Engine.

The family Homestead in Clarkston was always a source of inspiration and peace for Tom as he worked endlessly to maintain the property with an emphasis to preserve its natural beauty and as a loving home for their many animals both native and domesticated. He and Loraine were active supporters of the Blue Herron Headwaters Land Conservancy working jointly to achieve their goal of property preservation and enjoyment for the neighboring community.

Tom also had a strong passion for history and bringing history to the family. He continued his long family tradition of advancing family genealogy including solving the 4 Generation family mystery of his Great Grandfather lost in Australia in the mid 1800’s. He enjoyed tracing many family trails back through the generations and these quests became the motivation of many family trips to explore the Family Trail. Tom will be interned in the family plot in Skaneateles NY.

Just finding out about Tom's passing. He and I worked on family genealogy over the last ten years. He was a superstar. I miss that we can't continue. I'd be willing to help any others that want to continue this "forever" journey. Condolences to all his family and close friends. Andy (1st cousin 1X removed)
