Tyre Phillips Jr., 77, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
Born in McAdenville, North Carolina, Tyre was the beloved son of the late Tyre Phillips Sr. and Ruth Boyd Phillips. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Cathleen Phillips. He is also survived by his brother, Ozell Phillips, and sister, Pat Simmons (Fred), and was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Phillips, and sisters, Linda Lowery and Helen Phillips. He is also survived by his loving Aunt Josephine Stell and a sister-in-law Lucy Rivers.
Tyre was a devoted father to his daughter, Michelle Phillips, and son, Travis Phillips, and a caring father-in-law to Denise Phillips. He leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren—Chris, Courtney, C’yani, Cassidy, Zaire, Jaxon, and Bryson; and one treasured great-grandchild, Remi; one honorary son, Quinn; and one honorary granddaughter, Madison; all of whom brought him immense joy. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom he cherished.
A proud veteran, Tyre honorably served his country in Vietnam. He was the recipient of the United States of America Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After his service, he built a long and steady career as a Transportation Specialist (truck driver) with Observer Transportation and Frito-Lay, retiring after many years of dedication. At home, Tyre was known for his remarkable ability to fix nearly anything and for his skills as a self-taught carpenter. More importantly, Tyre asked to be saved during the pandemic while watching service online and he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Those who knew Tyre will remember him for his generosity, sharp wit, and dry sense of humor. He was a man who gave freely to others and carried a quiet strength that will be deeply missed.
Now free from suffering, he rests in peace.
