Vera Floyd Obituary

A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Vera Nash Floyd of Tampa, FL. who transitioned from earth to glory on Friday morning, August 18, 2017, will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., Brown Memorial Church of God in Christ, 2313 E. 27th Ave., Bishop Matthew Williams, General Board Member, Presiding Prelate, Jurisdiction of Southwestern Florida Pastor, Officiating. The interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna, Tampa, FL. 33610.

Vera was born on February 8, 1935, to the late Manuel Nash and the late Stella Kendrick Nash in Gadsden County, Florida. She moved to Tampa in 1953 and made Tampa her home. Vera was employed by Tampa General Hospital for over 26 years and retired as a Nurse’s Aide. She was preceded in death by spouses Sammie Hayes and Jack Floyd, three of her eight children: George Huff, Jr., Renardo Nash, Sr. and Delores Huff Lewis, and her dear sister/friend Mother Mattie Gaines Mills.

Vera was a servant of God working out her journey on this side from St. Paul Temple COGIC and later moving her membership to Full Gospel COGIC* where she served as Sunday School Superintendent and Church Mother , and was named Sunday School Field Representative. Mother Floyd found that her time loving God and serving her church was as essential as drinking water and eating, and was named the District Mother of the Greater Tampa District under the watchful guidance of District Missionary Kay Glenn and Superintendent Charles Davis.

Remembering her lovingly are children: Bettye Greene Johnson (Don), Beryl Nita Streets, Reginald B. Huff, Theresa G. Johnson, Cynthia Huff, and Michelle L. Whitfield (Marc); Brother, John Allen Nash; Grandchildren: Renardo Nash, Jr., Akiesha Hemmingway (Kofi), Delnardo Williams, James Johnson (Tameka), Michael E. Johnson, Sr. (Tangie), Reginald A. There will be a viewing on Friday, August 25, from 5:00 -8:00 pm at the  Wilson Funeral Home. Friends are asked to assemble at Brown Memorial COGIC at 10:45am on Sat., August 26.

Mama, not a day goes by where I don’t think about you or are missing you. Though you’re in better place, with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, it still hurts not to be able to hear your voice or just come by and visit and get a frozen cup or two. I love you!

I am so thankful to have known you and have you as my Grandmother. It was always a special time for me to spend my weekends with you as a child. You never was mean to me even though you did not play. I still can hear you say, Michael, come get in this bed with me. Lol. And in my adult years, you giving me some chores when I come over. I love you very very much Grandma. And I hope to see you again someday. Your #1 Grandson, Michael.

My mother in law, Vera Floyd. How I remember our first encounter, you inviting me to dinner. I told Michelle, as we were only dating at this time, your mom is getting ready to interrogate me. She said, no she's not. Lo & behold, before, I could cut my meat good, she says to me, you're not going to beat my grandson (D'Andre) are you? I'll never forget that! I love & miss you Mama, as you never treated me like a son in law, but as a son. Thank you & I know you're in a better place.
