We loved to meet him at the supermarket and have a chat . I met your Dad in 1973 when I came to visit with Iris . He was a wonderful family man and loved by so many . We came to know Vern through friends and family. He was always a pleasant man who enjoyed helping others. His kind spirit was contagious and his demeanour calming. He was an inspiration to many, he lived a remarkable life

We are very sad, we just heard of the passing of Vernon. He was a bright light at the visitations for own our father just this past August. What a man Vernon was! We are very sorry for your great loss Ross, Iris and family.

Our condolences to Iris, and the entire Petten family. Vern was such a kind and gentle man. Barbara and I remember with fondness the time he took us fishing. He always made us feel welcome and we greatly appreciated his kindness and generosity.

Iris - I was saddened to hear of your father’s passing. While I didn’t know him, I read his book and he sounded like such an interesting and accomplished person. Such a loss for your family and the whole community.
