Walter Hyrc, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2025. Born in Mikluszowice, Poland, Walter came to the United States in 1967 at just 15 years old, alongside his mother and siblings, seeking a life filled with hope and opportunity. He made Des Plaines, Illinois his home for nearly three decades, where he built a warm and welcoming life surrounded by family and friends who cherished his kindness and generosity.
Walter’s greatest joy was his family. He shared 52 beautiful years with his beloved wife, Frieda (Przybyslawski) Hyrc, creating a life rooted in love and devotion. He was a proud and caring father to Michael (Teresa) Hyrc and Diane (Athanasios) Baboulas, and a treasured grandfather to Noah and Dylan Hyrc, and Cristina, Alexandra, and Thomas Baboulas. His love for them was boundless, and his presence will forever remain in their hearts.
Walter dedicated over 50 years to Silgan Holdings as a Steel Fabricator and Welding Specialist, where his skill, loyalty, and friendship touched countless lives. Even after retiring, he continued to share his wisdom as a consultant for five more years. His work ethic and commitment were a reflection of his character—steady, dependable, and full of integrity.
Walter was truly a master of many skills. Whether fixing a car, building a home, or mending the smallest break in a cherished toy, there was nothing he couldn’t handle. His passions included classic American muscle cars, the timeless music of Elvis Presley, and an enduring drive to keep learning and growing. Walter will be remembered for his gentle nature, his steadfast devotion to family, and the warmth he shared with everyone around him. His legacy of love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Jan Hyrc and Katarzyna (Hyrc) Cabaj, and his brother, Aleksander Hyrc. He is survived by his brother Jan Hyrc and sister Zofia (Hyrc) Solak, who will continue to honor his memory.
