Walter Mattner Obituary

Walter A. Mattner, age 84, of Tigerton passed away Monday, June 15, 2015 at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah.

Walter Adolph Mattner was born on December 15, 1930 in Tigerton to the late Adolph and Emily (Martin) Mattner. He was raised and attended school in Tigerton. Walter entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. After the military he started working at American Motors Corporation (AMC – now known as Chrysler) in Kenosha. After being employed with AMC for 30 years as an inspector he retired in 1980 and returned home to Tigerton. Walter was united in marriage on February 25, 1981 to Sandra D. Wendt in Las Vegas, NV. He was quite the handyman and the couple extensively remodeled their Tigerton home and even cleared a landing strip for his airplane. Walter could fix almost anything and was always "tinkering" around with something. He enjoyed flying his Cessna and he liked to attend EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh every year possible. He also loved keeping his airstrip mowed and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his dear wife, Sandy, one brother, Ernest Mattner of Green Valley, AZ, and one sister, Hattie Strange of Kenosha. There are three sisters-in-law, Lucille Mattner of Kenosha, Donna (George) Stephenson of Nevada, and Luella (Bud) Parker of Tigerton. There are two brothers-in-law, Allen Wendt of Kodak, TN, and Delbert (Sandy) Wendt of Kenosha. Walter is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by five brothers, August, Oswalt, Albert, Theodore, and Herbert; two sisters-in-law, Dawn Mattner and Mary Ann Wendt; and two brothers-in-law, Dale Strange and Wallace Wendt.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 20th at 12:00 Noon at Peace Lutheran Church, Split Rock. Rev. Craig Nehring will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by members of the American Legion Post #239 of Tigerton. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton, is assisting the family.
