Walter J Richardson

Walter J. Richardson, 82, of Clark, NJ, died on Friday, July 28, 2023.  The Visitation will be at the Rossi Funeral Home on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 4-7pm.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 11:30am. 

Walter was born in Orange, NJ and grew up in Bloomfield, NJ.  He moved to Scotch Plains, NJ with his wife Joan to raise their family, and in 2016, they settled to Clark, NJ.  For over 25yrs., Walter worked for Hoechst-Roussel Pharmaceuticals before retiring in 2002.  Walter was an active member of the St. Bartholomew congregation, he was a member of the Adult Choir and a Eucharist Minister for many years.  He also belonged to the Fr. John S. Nelligan Council of the Knights of Columbus, and played for the St. Bartholomew Oldtimers Softball League. 

Walter enjoyed going to the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge to listen to the songbirds in the spring, and watch the migratory birds throughout the fall.  He would venture down to Long Beach Island to go surf fishing for stripers, blues, and fluke.  Walter was an avid San Francisco 49er fan and Notre Dame Football fan. Walter also enjoyed going for bike rides in his neighborhood of Scotch Plains, and also into Fanwood and Westfield. Walter’s greatest joy was spending time with his six cherished grandchildren.

Walter is survived by his wife of 55yrs. Joan M.; his daughter Nancy Saggio (Ed); his son David (Amy); his six grandchildren David Saggio, Samantha Saggio, Jack Saggio, Sean Saggio, Eliana Richardson, and Zuly Richardson; and his many nieces, nephews, and friends of T.A.L.C.
