Not sure what to say?

I worked with Bill for many years at NKY Health department. He was always a kind and caring man who spoke about his family often. I hope Bill was able to spend lots of time with them after his retirement and left them with many comforting memories. God bless.

William's Obituary

William F. Bookmyer, 75, loving husband of Judith (Crail) Bookmyer and father to Jeremy (Kathleen) Bookmyer and Eric (Molly) Bookmyer, passed away Monday, September 23rd. He was born to the late Raymond Bookmyer and Juanita Bookmyer on May 7, 1949. He was preceded in death by his older sister, Mary Ann Diekmann. He is survived by his wife, Judith; his children, Jeremy (Kathleen) and Eric (Molly); his siblings, Kathleen (David) Barker and Raymond (Paula) Bookmyer; and his beloved grandchildren, James and Felix Bookmyer. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and many dear friends.

William, who preferred to go by Bill, was born in Indiana and later relocated to Cincinnati with his family. He worked at William’s Pharmacy in Deer Park and ultimately graduated from Moeller High School and the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Pharmacy. He met Judith “Judy” Crail, and the two were happily married in 1983. After the birth of their son Jeremy, Bill decided to change careers to spend more time with his family to enjoy a steadier schedule. He became a Health Environmentalist for the Northern Kentucky Health Department, where he worked until retirement.

Bill had a great love for the outdoors and travel. In his youth, he traveled and biked extensively as well as taking solo trips to the Western United States. Later, he cherished family vacations often wading through creeks with Jeremy and Eric. After retiring, he and Judy enjoyed visiting wineries together. When not working in the yard, Bill was a voracious reader, an avid concertgoer, and a Bengals and Reds fan.

Bill was nothing if not strong-willed and never let anything keep him from spending time outdoors, even if it was just to dig, which he found therapeutic. After learning his cancer had returned, Bill and Judy traveled to Tennessee near the Smoky Mountains where he and Judy had vacationed with their children. He became ill and was ultimately hospitalized in Knoxville. Bill passed away knowing he had done all he could, having seen his family and made sure they knew how proud he was of them.

A visitation will be held at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home, 5527 Cheviot Rd. (45247), on Wednesday, October 09, 2024, from 09:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese Little Flower Parish in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations to the SPCA or charity of choice be made in Bill’s memory.
