William Dunmire, 98
William Dunmire of Juneau, PA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 4, 2025.
He was born on October 15, 1927, the adopted son of the late Reed and Elizabeth (Dunmire) Sherry. His birth mother was the late Mary (Van Leer) Dunmire and his birth father, William Dunmire who died 3 months before he was born.
He attended Punxsutawney High School and was a WW II veteran of the Army Air Corp.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 63 years, Bethea Joyce (English) Dunmire, two brothers, David Paul and Henry Grant Dunmire, a half brother Clay Kanoff, one sister, Louise (Dunmire) Vittie, his second wife, Kathleen (Reed) Dunmire, one stepson, Roy Custer, two stepdaughters Kathy Bubash and Linda Phillips Ferry.
He married Kathleen (Reed) Warnick in 2012. He is survived by a son, David W. Dunmire and Pam of Punxsutawney, two daughters, Cheryl (Dunmire) and Brad Ruffner of Lake Milton, OH, and Lesa (Dunmire) and David Ramirez of Bristol, TN, stepdaughter Tracy Smith of Warren, PA, eight grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.
He worked for many years for the Harvey Company and retired from Goss Brothers. He was a man of many talents and able to do most anything that he set his mind to. He worked well with his hands, was an accomplished welder, diesel mechanic, and machine operator. He was a former Justice of the Peace, strip miner, mill rite, truck driver, salesman, repairman, gardener, trouble shooter, store manager, Sunday school teacher, singer, church elder, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a real problem solver and enjoyed the challenge of making something work. If he couldn’t fix it, it really was junk. He often said, “I can fix most anything but a broken heart, and I know the One who can.”
He loved to sing for his Lord and Savior. He sang lead in many gospel groups including The Harmony Four, Harmony Trio, and The Backwoods Quartet and sang in church choirs. He recorded many LP records, tapes, and CDs in Nashville, TN. He was an avid camper and loved to fish in Canada.
He was a member of Chestnut Grove Independent Church and had a keen understanding of Scripture. He did not want to be known as a religious man because in his words “religion won’t save anyone” but having a relationship with Jesus Christ will. He lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all who knew him.
Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Deeley Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Chestnut Grove Independent Church 342 Lipp Rd. Punxsutawney, PA 15767, with a funeral to follow beginning at 11 a.m., with Pastor Joe Spack officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Rossiter.
