William Raborn Obituary

William Ed Raborn, age 92 of Snyder, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 13, 2015, at the Hill Country Care Center in Dripping Springs, after a lengthy illness. Services for Mr. Raborn will be held on Thursday November 19, 2015 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Chapel with Rev. Donald Forrester officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Mr. Raborn was born in Waco on April 14, 1923, to Ed and Willie Mae Raborn, and raised there. He married Juanita McKinney on October 30, 1943, and they were married for 69 years. As a soldier in World War II, 1st Lieutenant Raborn served with the 27th Engineer Construction Battalion, laying in roads under direct enemy fire in the Philippines and later serving with the Army of Occupation in Japan. Completing his education at Texas A&M, he held teaching positions in Gallup, NM and Daisetta, TX before moving to Snyder in 1953 where he was a well-respected educator at Snyder Junior High and High School for over 52 years and influenced three generations of students. He taught primarily industrial arts and his love for teaching showed in his many projects including woodwork, collecting rocks and making jewelry. He is well remembered for his love and dedication to God, family and friends, and he served as a deacon at First Baptist Church for over 50 years. He is survived by four sons, Bill Raborn and his wife Kathy of Snyder, Bob Raborn and his wife Karen of Abilene, John Raborn and his wife Sherie of Garden City, CA., and Sam Raborn of Tyler; his daughter, Wanda Reynolds and her husband Randy of Henly; one brother Bob Raborn of Shreveport; ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Raborn; his brother John Raborn; and his parents, Ed and Willie Mae Raborn. Although we will miss him, we are glad he no longer suffers and will remember his life on this earth with love and fond memories. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Online condolences may be posted at www.bellcypertseale.com

My dad worked with Ed, and our family shared a few picnics with his family back in the late fifties and early sixties. When I was just a tad at 7 years old, I was stung by a swarm of wasps near the Snyder High football stadium. Ed heard my screams and came to my aid, pressing some cool mud on the wounds to relieve the pain. Ill never forget that. He and Juanita were so kind to our family. God rest his good soul.
