William Ralph Taylor Obituary

William Ralph Taylor peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 29, 2025, at Parham Doctors’ Hospital in Henrico County, Virginia. He was born on July 7, 1940, in Mangohick, Virginia, to the late William James Taylor and Mary Alice Elizabeth Taylor.

At an early age, William accepted Christ and became a faithful and lifelong member of Mangohick Baptist Church in Mangohick, Virginia, where he served devotedly on the Men’s Choir. A gentle and soft-spoken man, William was known for his loving spirit, warm smile, and unwavering willingness to serve others. His presence brought comfort, kindness, and quiet strength to all who knew him.

William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha E. Taylor, and eight siblings. He was deeply committed to faith, family, and community throughout his life.

A graduate of Hamilton-Holmes, William developed a lifelong passion for baseball and remained a loyal fan of the Washington Commanders, steadfast in support through every season. His dedication to service extended beyond the home and into the church, where he received the Father of the Year Award from Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. There, he faithfully served as President of the Usher Board and sang on the choir. Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Herbert L. Ponder, also held special significance for the Taylor family, as his wife was an active member.

William dedicated over 30 years of service to Richmond Memorial Hospital, where he was known as a consistent, loyal, and conscientious employee. Upon retirement, he was honored with a service award recognizing his unwavering commitment and exemplary work ethic.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving daughter, Patricia M. Green; three sons, Ralph M. Taylor, Alan Taylor (Denise), and Anthony Ray Sr. (Donna). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Marvay Banks, Marvin W. Green Jr., Lakita Grant, Aldre Peatross, Alasha Peatross, Ralph M. Taylor Jr., Tabitha Taylor, Zada Taylor, Colby Anderson, and Anthony Ray Jr., along with 20 great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.

William is also survived by his devoted brother, Conway Taylor, Sr. (Shirley); dear friends Roger and Alvin Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregivers, his daughter Patricia, son-in-law Marvin Green, Merilyn Patterson, Marvay Banks, Aiden Waller, Marvin (MJ) Green Jr., and Affinity Care of VA Hospice, for their kindness, compassion, and dedicated care during his final days.

William Ralph Taylor’s gentle spirit, quiet strength, and legacy of love and service will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.

My prayers are with the Taylor family. Cousin Ralph was a very kind and loving man. He always had a kind smile on his face when he asked me how was I doing. He had a kind and gentleness to himself and others when he spoke. One that I can say that had his angel wings all his life. His smile had this warmth that I can't explain. He's one that will truly be missed.
