William Bruce Shannon

1935 - 2025

William Bruce Shannon, 90, of New Wilmington, PA, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Avalon Springs in Mercer.

Bruce was born in Grove City, PA on January 3, 1935 to the late William Ernest and Hallie V. (Allen) Shannon.  

On April 14, 1962 Bruce married Donna Jones and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2016.

Bruce served in the United States Navy and did a tour of duty with the Navy from 1954 – 1958.  He graduated from Youngstown State University with a business administration degree.  Bruce was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Mercer, where he was a former elder and deacon.

He was a farmer and field engineer with National Fuel Gas Co. Bruce loved the outdoors and farmland, was an avid traveler, and had a very good sense of humor.

Surviving are his two sons, Scott (Maggie) Shannon in San Francisco, CA and Christopher (Martha) Shannon in Annapolis, MD; one sister, Sandra (John) Miller in Eureka, CA and two brothers, Stanley Shannon in New Wilmington, PA and Paul (Liz) Shannon in Port Charlotte, Florida.  Four grandchildren: Claudia, Luke, Olivia and Chloe and two great grandchildren:  John and Reagan and he left behind many nieces and nephews.

Bruce is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna Shannon and two sisters, Mary Koehn and Patricia Mayo.

Visitation will be at Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., 144 S. Pitt Street, Mercer, PA 16137 on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM (Noon).  Funeral service will be at the funeral home immediately after visitation at Noon with Pastor Bob White officiating.  Burial will follow at Carpenter Cemetery, Mercer, PA.
