Willie had the most amazing positive outlook on life, no matter what challenges he faced. His legacy will live on through the hundreds of people he positively affected over the years.

Rest up friend.

Willie THE Can Man, you will be missed terribly.

Willie lived in our garage for all of Sophomore year (and in the basement on really cold nights). He had an incredibly positive outlook on life, despite the hardships he obviously fought. Beneath it all, he truly and deeply cared about all of the "kids" (as he called us) in East Lansing. He broke up fights, gave safety and comfort to young women who found themselves in compromising situations, and made it a personal mission to make our city a better place... I informed him once that a bottle he was collecting didn't have a return value and he told me "some one still needs to pick it up".

I remember waking up after a particularly raucous party at our house, with a litter citation from the city on our front door, only to find that our entire property was spotless.I asked him if he knew what that was about and he just said "you kids take care of me, so i take care of you kids."

He established trust among the entire student body and would never have done anything to break that trust. He was just a genuine force for good in this world.

And, in my senior year, I remember one particularly involved philosophical discuss at 3am on a park bench behind The Riv. I knew of his health problems and his life style in general, and i asked how he stayed so happy all the time. he said "enjoy every second, because the minute is not promised"...stopped me in my tracks.

A true diamond in the rough.

Sleep well, my friend.
