Rose-Yvonne was born November 8th, 1923 in the capital city, Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. She is one of five daughters
and two sons of Fenelus Michel and his wife, Saintamise Michel, born Marcellin. She and her six siblings; Concilia,
Miricia, Denise, Yvette, Menio and Pasky enjoyed their childhood as the offpring of a large coffee plantation owner
during the prosperous 1920’s.
As a young woman, she married Ernst Nazon (b. August 28, 1919) who then intended for the priesthood of
Catholic priest, but who to marry him adopted the Baptist religion of his future wife and continued their spiritual life together as a Reverend in the Church.
Together they went on to build a spiritual life through work and study, and to lead numerous aid missions to help teach, preach and care for the most underprivileged in Haiti.
They settled in Chicago, Illinois where they worked, led the South Shore Baptist Church church and nearest to
their heart raised their family. They were blessed six children: Fritz, Jean-Claude, Ernst, Leslie, Marie-
Esther and Emmanuel. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and numerous cousins and loved ones in
Chicago, New York Miami, Paris and other cities.
While her husband Ernest Nazon created a tailor shop for men, Rose-Yvonne worked by side with him in the
South Shore Baptist Church providing material and moral support for families.
She is also dedicated to the education of her children, truly embodying the role of mother. She knew how to keep the flavors of Haiti and the joy of everyday life in her kitchen.
Like her husband, she regularly read and studied the Bible. Her favorite verse the 23rd Psalm, will be read and
remembered always:
Psalm 23
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters."
