William King Obituary

William George "Bill" King Battle Creek William George "Bill" King, 93, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday morning, November 28, 2012. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on August 19, 1919 the son of Ora and Ota H. (Pusey) King. Bill faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army Military Police and the Civilian Conservation Corps. He retired in 1979 after more than 33 years of faithful service as a conductor with the Amtrak, New York Central, Penn Central and the Conrail Railroads. Bill was sadly preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy King in 1963 and Audrey I. (Murphree) King in 2010; a daughter, Pamela Connell; a grandson, Michael Connell; 2 sisters; 6 brothers and a son-in-law, Dennis Waltz. He is survived by his daughters, Billie Jo Waltz of Galesburg and Carlene (Richard) Wofford of Battle Creek; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Place of Colorado and a brother, Wayne King of Arizona. Bill was a member of the Battle Creek Seventh-Day Adventist Tabernacle, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen (currently known as the United Transportation Union) and was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows since 1947. He enjoyed camping, shooting pool, playing horseshoes and bowling. A very loving and caring man, Bill took time to visit with neighbors and friends at the hospitals and funeral homes. At the request of the family, they will receive friends 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services to celebrate his life will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 3, 2012. Interment with military honors will follow at Hicks West Pennfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
