Deland D. Guile


Deland Dowding Guile, 92, formerly of Battle Creek, died April 26, 2014 in Bossier City, Louisiana.

He was born February 7, 1922, the son of Ross G. and Sara J. (Dowding) Guile in Battle Creek.  He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.  Deland attended trade school to train as a tool and die maker.  He worked for Eaton Manufacturing for 43 years, retiring in 1982.

Deland married Mildred Loretta Seamans in 1942. Mildred survives him.  Also surviving are sons, Daniel (Kathy) Guile of Provo, Utah, Dennis Guile of White Lake, Theodore (Jennifer) Guile of Bossier City, Louisiana; Katherine (Bruce) Hamlin of Macomb, Michigan, June (Darrell) Wright of Battle Creek; 24 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; brothers, Wayne (Marsha) Guile and Ronald (Martha) Guile.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Susan Guile, daughter-in-law Diane Guile and brother, Charles Guile.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Shaw Funeral Home, Battle Creek.  Service will take place 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1312 Capital Ave., SW, Battle Creek.  Interment, Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.  Memorial donations may be made to Latter Day Saints (LDS) Missionary Fund.
