Merle W. Pierce

SMSgt. Merle W. Pierce (Ret.) Battle Creek SMSgt. Merle W. Pierce (Ret.), age 77, of Battle Creek, died Friday March 1, 2013 at The Oaks at North Pointe Woods. Merle was born October 8, 1935 in Battle Creek, to Wesley M. and Frances E. (Squires) Pierce. Merle graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1954 and married the former Bonnie L. Campbell on May 13, 1956. Merle had served in the US Air Force for 28 years and retired in 1982 while serving at the Battle Creek Federal Center. Merle was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, the Toastmasters Club, and the American Legion and had attended Calvary Baptist Church. Merle loved woodworking, camping, canoeing and motorcycling. Merle is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie, sons, Michael A. of Bartlett, IL, and William E. (Barbra) of Mesa, AZ, a former daughter in law, Lt.Col. Jody C. (Ron) Noe, of Dayton, OH, grandchildren, Brandon (Shelly), Charissa, Devin (Mikko), Ryan, Caitlin (Dan) Gregoire, and Benjamin Pierce, great grandchildren, Ella and Vivian Pierce, Irish and Amelia Gregoire, his mother Frances E. Pierce of Battle Creek, brothers, Gary (Kathy) of Ocala, FL, Steve (Joannie) of Battle Creek and John (Jean) of Kalamazoo. Merle was preceded in death by his father, Wesley M. Pierce, a brother, Robert and a sister Margaret. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment with honors will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery followed by refreshments afterward at Christ United Methodist Church, 65 Bedford Rd. at 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation.
