Joseph W. "Joe" Michielsen Battle Creek Joseph William "Joe" Michielsen, 62, of Battle Creek, died April 29, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born January 2, 1950, the son of Joseph W. and Mary L. (Doemling) Michielsen in Chicago, Illinois. Joe graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked in manufacturing engineering management roles at Kraft Foods/Post Cereals for 28 years, retiring in 2002. He married Carolyn H. Springer on May 20, 1972. Carolyn survives. Also surviving are a son, Erik W. Michielsen of Brooklyn, New York; sisters, Margaret (Ron) Sullivan of Anchorage, Alaska, Mary (Greg) Shellman of Decatur, Georgia, Patricia Cardin of Hobart, Indiana, Janet (Jeff) Middleton of Homer, Alaska; brothers, Martin (Angela) Michielsen of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Charles (Cynthia) Michielsen of Schererville, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents. Joe was the patriarch of his family and always set the pace as a quiet leader. His passions included attending Michigan football games, playing golf, fishing in the ocean and boating on Goguac Lake. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Shaw Funeral Home. Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Codde officiating. Interment, Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may go to the Gastric Cancer Fund - - or The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home.
