Nina M. Klein

formerly of Athens - Nina May Klein, 97, formerly of Athens, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility in Battle Creek. A celebration of Nina's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Lighthouse of Athens. Visitation will take place from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Lighthouse of Athens, 310 S. Capital Avenue in Athens. Interment will follow at North Sherwood Cemetery in Sherwood Township. Nina was born on May 11, 1921 in Sherwood, MI to James and Margaret (Favorite) Pepper. She attended Athens High School, where she graduated with the Class of 1939. In 1941, she married Nicholas Klein, who proceeded her in death in 1986. Nina was employed by Lear Corporation in Mendon until her retirement in 1987. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting, along with cooking and playing the autoharp. When she was 80, Nina learned to use a computer. She also liked birdwatching.

Left to cherish Nina's memory are her children, Kaylene (Jim) Brouse of Fulton, Janean (Mark) Crapo of Battle Creek, Jolynne (Larry) Judge of Okemos and Jerianne Kladder of Columbus, OH; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Nicholas, Nina was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Estella Pepper; her siblings, Marie Piper, Bruce Pepper, Russell Pepper, Gladys Piper and Cliff Keller; and a son, Bruce Klein.
