Mr. Charlie Johnson, Jr. Lansing Mr. Charlie Johnson, Jr., 61, of Lansing, formerly of Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Eaton Community Hospice, Charlotte, Michigan. Mr. Johnson was born September 18, 1949, in Battle Creek. He attended the Battle Creek Public Schools and was a 1968 graduate. While in high school he was a member of the basketball and football teams, he also ran track and played baseball. Following graduation he attended Western Michigan University where he received a Bachelor's in Physical Education. He was employed by the United States Post Office, and served as Postmaster in several Michigan cities, retiring from the Big Rapids Post Office in 2005, with more than thirty-three years of service. Mr. Johnson met and later married the former Flora Beene, February 12, 2005, she survives. He was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church of Grand Rapids, and Galilee Baptist Church, Kalamazoo, where he worked with the Mission Department.. He enjoyed all sports including swimming, baseball, football, basketball and coached many children and youth sports teams. He was an avid golfer and he enjoyed fishing. Also surviving, son, Charles Andre Johnson, Grand Rapids, daughters, Dessie Johnson, Lansing, Sheila (Salatha) Willis, Terra Haute, Indiana, Nickia (Samuel) Williams, Detroit, his mother, Dessie (Darfore) Fullerton, Battle Creek, brother, Vora Lee (Deborah) Johnson, Denver, Colorado, sisters, Vonda Johnson, Southfield, Deborah Johnson, Battle Creek, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Burl J. Johnson. Visitation at T M Hughes-Perry Mortuary, Wednesday, April 13, 2011, after 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the First Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Services, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at the church with Pastor Craig Tatum, officiating.
