Benjamin J. Burke Battle Creek Benjamin J. Burke, 28, of Battle Creek, died at home on April 1, 2012. Ben was born in Battle Creek on March 11, 1984, to Roderick A. and Theresa M. (Galloup) Burke. He was a 2002 graduate of Pennfield High School. He then served four years in Asia/Japan with the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS O'Brien, Kitty Hawk and Fitzgerald. After the U.S. Navy, Ben attended Kellogg Community College and studied electronics, and at the Industrial Trade Center at Ft. Custer and Grand Rapids Community College, where he made the Dean's List. Ben was recently employed as a dispatcher and truck driver for the Salvation Army. Ben is survived by his parents, Rod and Theresa Burke of Battle Creek; two sisters, Meghan A. Burke of Bloomington, IL and Sarah M. Burke, currently serving in the U.S. Air Force; maternal grandfather, John O. Galloup; and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. Ben was a Boy Scout; he enjoyed weight lifting, playing with the dogs, music, and laughing with his family. He was an avid reader and enjoyed being in the woods at The Cabin up north. He attended St. Philip Catholic Church in Battle Creek and St. Andrews Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, where he recently took a course about the Eucharist and the Easter season. He was a gentle, compassionate, and spiritual young man who loved doing God's work through the Salvation Army, praying the Rosary and helping others with addiction or other personal problems. At the request of the family, friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 2:00-4:00 p.m. & 6:00-8:00 p.m. and where the Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be officiated by Majors Roger and Cecilia Senn at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012.
