Curtis Lawrence Spurlock, retired barber, passed away Tuesday July 2, 2013, at Baxter Regional Medical

Curtis Spurlock was born October 24, 1927, at Center, near Ash Flat, Arkansas, to Lawrence and Julia Couch Spurlock. Curtis served as a U.S. Army combat engineer in the Pacific shortly after World War Il. On August 12, 1950, Curtis married Eula L. Booth, and they were blessed with almost 63 years together, as well as four children.

Curtis was a ranch cowboy in Arkansas and Arizona for several years, until he sustained a severe back injury. He then became a barber, and owned and operated his own shop in Mountain Home for 39 years. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He never stopped loving horseback riding, and kept a riding mule until he was well up in years. Curtis never met a stranger, and always kept a smile and a positive attitude even when his body started to fail him. He was an active Christian of extremely solid faith, a member of the Church of Christ all of his adult life.

Curtis was particularly proud of his family, and loved to talk about his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Eula, his sister, Olene Moser, of Texarkana, Texas, his sons: Larry "Bo", Spurlock, of Mountain Home, Mike (Diane) Spurlock, of Ames, Iowa, and one daughter, Linda (Joe) Smith of Gamaliel, Arkansas. His grandchildren are: Curtis (Heidi) Skiver of Mountain Home, Holly (Chad) Skiver Vincent of St. Louis, Missouri, Joe Smith of Houston, Texas, Kimberly (Alan) Smith Young of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Jessica Spurlock of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kylie Spurlock of Lafayette, Indiana. He and Eula also have four great grandchildren, of whom he was very proud.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Geraldine Ricks; one brother, Drexel Spurlock, and recently, their daughter Vickie.

Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Bean Cemetery in Gamaliel with Brother Luell McCutcheon officiating.

The family requests that: in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paragould Children's Homes, Paragould, Arkansas.

Arrangements are by Roller Funeral Home. Visit our online guestbook at
