Calvin Richard Hansen died peacefully in his home on January 28, 2016 in Houston, TX. Cal was 90.

Cal was born and raised as the oldest of five children on a Canadian farm near Bentley, Alberta to parents Harry and Edna Hansen. Cal left the family farm as the first in his family to attend college, initially obtaining a teaching certificate, then graduating from the University of British Columbia with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1950. While in Vancouver, Cal met and married Jane Barrigan. Cal and Jane moved to the United States shortly after their wedding in 1952. Cal attained American citizenship while living in Los Angeles, CA and began a long and successful career as a project engineer for Shell Oil. Cal's engineering career led him and Jane on a journey to several locations across Canada, to both southern and northern California, and eventually to Houston, Texas where Cal and Jane have made their home since 1968. Cal retired from Shell Oil in 1990 to focus on golfing, travel, and family.

Cal is survived by his wife Jane Hansen and son Kenneth Hansen, both of Houston; his daughter Janet Lowe of Incline Village, Nevada; his three sisters Grace, Audrey and Marlene of Alberta, Canada; and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, James and his brother William.

Cal will be cremated, and following his wishes, there will be no immediate service. His wife Jane will host a celebration of his life at a later date.
