Elizabeth Anne (Betty) Strothmann Peterson, born February 6, 1928 departed this life @ 6:00 am on October 6, 2015 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents Marie and Carl Strothmann, her husband Richard T. (Dick) Peterson, her brother Carl Strothmann Jr. and her grandson Eric Bernard.

Born February 6, 1928. Elizabeth attended Springfield Jr. College In Springfield, Illinois where she was a member of The Delta Psi Omega Dramatic Fraternity. She completed Nurses Training at Chicago's Cook County Hospital in 1950. She met the love of her life on a blind date to go sailing on Lake Springfield. Of course she was late returning and when the nuns monitoring her dormitory asked her why she was late she said she was on a sail boat and the wind died. The nuns said it was the most original excuse they ever heard!

Her first born came in 1951, when Dick was in the Army stationed in Korea attached to a MASH unit.

She raised 6 children 5 boys, 1 girl and followed her husband thru no less than 7 moves taking her from Springfield Ill. to Detroit, Tulsa, back to Detroit, Houston, Centerville Texas, Austin and finally back to Houston.

In 1970, she took a refresher course in nursing and went to work at the Clear Lake Hospital where she worked as a Surgical Operating Nurse. She and Dick retired in 1982 and spent 5 years cruising the seas and living aboard an Irwin 54 sailboat on both coasts of Florida and the Keys.

When they wanted a new adventure they bought a small ranch in central Texas. They renovated, expanded, built a new barn, raised Tennessee Walking Horses and grew organic chickens and vegetables. Throughout their marriage No matter what the adventure Betty was ready to go. She was the loving support and calm counter balance to Dick's drive to learn grow and do.

She is survived by a large and loving family; Richard and Virginia T. Peterson Jr (Richmond Va.) David and Denyse H. Peterson (Chicago), James R. Peterson (Austin) Paul H. Peterson (Austin) John and Andrea C. Peterson (Colorado Springs) and Suzanne and Ray M. Bernard (Houston) and her11 grandchildren: Brooke, Michael, Blake, Ethan, Devin, Delainey, Rianne, Savanna, Jacob, Jillian and Dominique.

Her life will be honored and celebrated in Austin at a private family gathering. Betty will live on in our memories as a loving mother and a kind, gentle soul who loved and accepted everyone. Betty made the world a better place because she showed us all by example how to live a life of love.
