Elizabeth (Betty) Bole a long-time resident of the Houston and Austin, Texas, as well as Buffalo, New York passed away May 14, 2015 at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care Center in Houston.

Betty was born on Valentine's Day 1937, to Lucille and Walter Hedges, in Dayton, Ohio.

Betty graduated from Buffalo General Hospital's three-year diploma program for Professional Registered Nurses, obtaining her bachelors and master's degrees in Nursing at Texas Women's University, Houston then earning her Doctorate of Education from The University of Houston.

Forever a champion of the nursing profession, education and professional women everywhere, her career spanned hospitals such as Buffalo General, Pasadena Bayshore, M.D. Anderson and Saint Anthony's Center; Universities such as the University of Saint Thomas, The University of Houston Downtown, San Jacinto Junior College; and peaking at The Texas Board of Professional Nurse Examiners. Perhaps her proudest achievement was pioneering the Health Occupations curriculum in Texas for Pasadena's Sam Rayburn High School in the 1970's, returning to teach the same classes at Dell Valley and Round Rock High Schools prior to her retirement.

Betty is predeceased by the love of her life and husband, James R. Bole, Sr., her parents, and sister Elaine Hedges. Betty is survived by her daughter Cheryl Bole Volirakis and her husband Gregory Volirakis, son James (Jay) R. Bole Jr. and his wife Mylene Bole, Grandchildren: Christopher Michael Volirakis, Vivian Volirakis Rodick and her husband Brian Rodick, Victoria Bole Thiers and her husband Jon Thiers, Matthew James Bole and many friends, all of whom live in southern Texas and brought great joy to her.

A celebration of her life will be held at Christchurch Presbyterian church, 5001 Bellaire Boulevard. Bellaire, Texas, at 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, June 27. Internment will be held Sunday June 28th at 1:00 p. m. at the Memorial Fountain of First Presbyterian Church of Austin, 8001 Mesa Drive, Austin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the - Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter, 6055 South Loop East, Houston, TX 77087-1005, or a charity of your choosing.

The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial Oaks Colonial Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care Center where she lived for the past three years, A-med Hospice and many church and family friends who has supported her and our families.
