Jean Whitson of NASA Bay, Texas, passed away September 27th, 2015, of natural causes after many years of declining health. She was born May 24th, 1926, in La Porte, Texas, and lived most of her life in the Bay Area. Her parents were Charles Oliver Williams and Josephine (Andel) Williams, both of whom are deceased. Jean worked in the La Port school system doing the payroll and other bookkeeping work early in her life and she then went to college where she completed one semester at the University of Houston. WWII interrupted her in her education. After the war ended, Jean went to work for DuPont in that same area followed by a role at Shell Oil in Houston, which was to become her career. She began as a stenographer at Deer Park and she was there for 20 years before she moved to downtown Houston, where she worked at the headquarters. There, she worked in a variety of jobs and eventually, for the senior executives of Shell. She stayed close to many of her ex-workers for many years, even in retirement. She is pre-deceased by her first husband, Sammy Sampsel and her second husband, Leo Whitson as well as her close companion for many years, Glen (Buddy) Williams. Her nieces, Lisa Ridley, Sue Novosad and Robbie Nelson, and nephews, Key Jobson and Chuck Jobson, survive her. The family wishes to extend their thanks to her many friends and neighbors who have provided her with care and to her care-givers of many years, especially Vickie Tinner-Harris who became her constant and loving companion. Additionally, they remember and thank Mirabel Gallejos, Hollie Mays, Nakiia McGhee and Lynette Tinner as well as Joyce Woods and Patty Rocha from Hospice Plus, for their caring and capable service during these years.

The family will be holding a private service for Jean in the Bay area, as this was the favorite place she loved to be throughout her very active and adventurous life.Any donations in Jean's name should be made to the Foundation, Houston, Texas, or to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Endowment Fund in Nassau Bay, Texas.
