Obituary

Joe Thomas Choate was born on January 25, 1945, eldest child of Carben and Opal Choate. He was raised on the family farm in Edcouch, Texas. Joe was called home on November 26, 2018 at the age of 73.

Joe graduated from Edcouch Elsa High School, and studied engineering at the University of Houston. Starting work with UNIVAC, he spent most of his career working for NASA contractors including The Boeing Company, Computer Science Corporation (CSC) and Lockheed Martin. He was proud to have been a part of the early space program Gemini and Apollo missions. Joe commented later in life, "There was no instruction manual back then; we had to make it up as we went."

Joe is survived by his two children Jerry (AnnaBeth) Choate of Friendswood, TX and Julie (Steve) Weghorn of Menomonie, WI, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson, two brothers and one sister. He is preceded in death by his parents and nephew.

Ranked as an American Contract Bridge Gold Life Master, Joe loved teaching and playing the game - regularly playing 5 days a week. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting - devoting great time and effort honing his skill. His wry smile and wit carry on in the memories and lives of his children, grandchildren and the people touched by his life.

Memorials may be made to the Houston Area Parkinson Society, 2700 Southwest Fwy #296, Houston, TX 77098 - www.hapsonline.org
