Josephine Faye Marx Duvall of Falcon Heights, Texas, was born on December 27, 1930 in Travis County, Texas, and died on September 8, 2012 in McAllen, Texas, due to a sudden and severe stroke. She was a dedicated and loyal mother, wife, sister, friend, and accomplished business woman. She was practical in her approach to life, but also knew how to enjoy it. She loved foreign travel, was an excellent cook (including homemade pizza every Friday night!), had a keen sense of humor, and was strongly independent - with an equal dose of stubbornness. She was endowed with beauty, compassion, integrity and intelligence; but not so much with height. She had a cup of tea every morning, an occasional glass of red wine at night and always had a book nearby since the day she learned to read. She was remarkably healthy throughout her long life, which she attributed to an avoidance of doctors and their medicine. In addition to managing her family responsibilities, she had a demanding career as the Seabrook City Business Manager, from which she retired and moved to the Valley area with her now-deceased husband, Neal. This would not be a proper obituary if her beloved dog, Lilly, were not mentioned; she was her loyal companion, and will miss her owner dearly, as we all will. This strong and influential woman was our loved family matriarch and we each are grateful for our time spent with her and the life knowledge passed down by her.

She is survived by 4 daughters, 4 son-in-laws, 24 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren: Daughter Cornelia Duvall and husband Brett Folmar and four children: Christopher Miller and wife Trisha Miller and their daughter Madison; Tyler Miller; Cornelia Miller; and Jesse Miller. Daughter Josephine Duvall and husband Dr. Michael Forstner and three children: Justin Jisha, Jacob Jisha and wife Brooke Jisha, and John Hayes Duvall-Jisha. Daughter Dr. Melissa Duvall and husband Ian Whitehead and five children: Thomas Sloane and son Jaden; Olivia Moffit and husband Dr. Jeremy Moffit and their children Colton, Camdon, and Ella; Victoria Sloane and her husband Sean Nguyen and their daughter Acelyn; Michele Hughes and her husband Dr. Matthew Hughes and their son Noah; and Cornelius (Neal) Whitehead. Daughter Laura Duvall and husband Timothy McBride and four children: Jennifer Naylor and son Richard Huston; Andrea Hammer Kilpper and husband John Kilpper and children Leah and John; Bevin Duvall-Hammer; and Caitlin Duvall-Hammer.

She is also survived by her sister, Lillian Warren, her brother, Gerald Marx and his wife Barbara, her brother-in-law E.L. Robinson (Bubbie), and sister-in-laws Francis Marx and Sally Marx.

Additionally, she is survived by four ex-son-in-laws (fathers to most of her grandchildren) Stewart Miller, John Jisha, Thomas Sloane, and Gerald Hammer, Jr. The family sincerely appreciates John Jisha for the many years that he lived near Josie and offered her his help, support, and love.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius (Neal) Howard Duvall III, her parents Viola Ruth and Charlie Marx, her sisters Johnnie Robinson and Ruby Hyden, and her brothers Clifford (Doc) Marx and William (Buck) Marx.

Memorials were held in Taylor, TX, at the Memorial Baptist Church on September 15, 2012; and in Roma-Los Saenz, TX, at the Holy Family Catholic Church Parish Hall on September 22, 2012.
