Karan Anne Pitts , 66 passed gently away on January 8, 2014 surrounded by family and friends in her home in Seabrook. She was born in Cleveland Ohio and began playing violin at age 10. She attended the University of Texas and spent 37 years teaching orchestra and promoting music education in Texas. She leaves behind a legacy of young musicians and teachers who continue to fill the world with music.

Karan is survived by her faithful brother, Richard Herzer and life-long best friend and soul mate, Cheryl Evans, as well as a multitude of friends and former students.

Contributions in Karan's honor may be made to Texas Orchestra Directors Association, The Barbara Eads Memorial Scholarship Fund, 7900 Centre Park Drive, Suite A Austin, TX 78754.

The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 24, from 5-8pm at Niday - Fairmont Funeral Home in Pasadena. A Celebration of Karan's Life will be shared 10:00am, Saturday Jan. 25, also at Niday - Fairmont Funeral Home.
