Marguerite Powell

The Guest Book is expired.

Marguerite Larkin Powell went Home on 9-5-2014 after 96 years of love, gratitude and true grit. She passed away in El Lago, Texas with family by her side. She was born August 28, 1918 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She later met her husband, Paul "Bubby" Powell, while attending SMU on a scholarship. Marguerite and Bubby were married for 73 years and had 2 daughters and also helped raise a grandson.

Marguerite worked for Amoco R efinery in Texas City (later BP, now Marathon) from the 40's until her retirement in 1976. She was always proud to be the fire truck driver of the plant's fire team and was also known to not shy from duties such as climbing to the top of large tanks. She also was in the antique business, travel business and gave tours in the historic Sweeney- Royston Galveston home that she and Bubby owned and restored. She and her husband later moved to the Austin area - and more recently to the Clear Lake area to live near their grandson and wife and great grandson - Mark, Susan and Clay Briggs respectively.

Marguerite was known to all as a determined woman, with an amazing level of gratitude for all around her. The haze of dementia did not stop her from expressing heartfelt love and appreciation for all those that helped her.

Marguerite is survived by two daughters - Virginia Yvonne "Bon" Powell Briggs and Karen Powell Landry, four grandsons and their wives and ten great grandchildren.

The family would like to express our love and appreciation for the angels at Psalm 23 Assisted living where Marguerite lived for the past 5 years - owner Margaret McGraw and care takers: Nyree DeTiege, Nneka Inyang, Monique Price, Kayla Lawrence and more - how can we thank you enough for loving her as your own.
