Richard (Dick) Bruce Poenisch, Clear Lake City, TX died on August 27, 2014 at the age of 69 following a short battle with cancer.

Dick was born May 27, 1945 in Cuero, Texas, to the late Jack and Eloise Gerdes Poenisch. He was educated in Catholic grade schools and graduated from Cuero High School in 1963. He received a BS in Chemistry from UT and a BS in Chemical Engineering from U of H.

Dick had a long and distinguished career with LyondellBasell Industries, having started with Oxirane Chemical in 1970. He retired in January 2014, with 44 years of service. He was recognized as a process simulation expert and a world class process design engineer. Dick mentored numerous engineers during his career with many acknowledging his guidance as a key to their success. In 2013, he received LyondellBasell's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for his many contributions to the company's propylene oxide technology. During his career he and his family lived both in France and The Netherlands before returning to Houston in 1998.

Dick is survived by his wife Leru Royster Poenisch, daughters Beth Essary, League City, TX, Melissa and husband Kent Raffray, Austin, TX and Hannah Poenisch, Sherman, TX, grandchildren Lauren and Joshua Essary, brother Terry Poenisch and wife Carol, Friendswood, TX, and sister Mary Gail Fertsch, Victoria, TX and an loving extended family.

Dick's interests included fishing, anything about the University of Texas, especially Longhorn football and he was an avid soccer fan.

A celebration of Dick's life will be held at Clear Lake Presbyterian Church, 1511 El Dorado, CLC, on Sat., Sept. 6th at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to Boys and Girls Harbor in LaPorte, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or .
