Richard P. Wilson Sr.

The Guest Book is expired.

Richard Paul Wilson, Sr., 85, of Houston, TX passed away peacefully at The Cottages in League City, TX on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. He was born July 26, 1930 to Newell M. Wilson, Sr. and Ethel M. Yarbrough Wilson in Dallas, TX.

Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean conflict, and was stationed in Guam and Pearl Harbor. After discharge he enrolled in Arlington State majoring in Electrical Engineering, but met the love of his life in Biology class, Martha Pressly. They were married for 62 years.

Out of college, Dick joined IBM in 1955 and was sent to the first class of Federal Systems Division in Kingston, NY, after which he was assigned as a Manager in the first SAGE program at McGuire AFB, in New Jersey. Then on to Gunter AFB in Montgomery, AL to open that SAGE site before coming to Johnson Space Center in 1964, where he worked on the Gemini and Apollo missions. After relocating to Denver, CO and Westlake, CA with IBM to the Strategic Air Command, he was returned to Houston to work on the Shuttle programs. He was a proud member of IBM-FSD, but chose to retire after 38 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Martha; son Richard, Jr. and wife Gail; daughter Susan and husband Brian; grandson Joshua and wife Erin; granddaughters, Shannon and Taylor; great granddaughters Riley and Reagan; and two Maltese puppies (Haley and Bailey) that he did not want, but learned to love them passionately.

Services were held at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home on October 3, 2015 with burial at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, TX.
