75, of Clear Lake passed away on August 21, 2012. Born in Pasadena, California on July 23, 1937, he graduated from UCLA and Harvard University with a PhD in Physical Chemistry. He worked in research for Shell Development Co. in California and the Netherlands before moving to Texas with Shell in 1972. Later he was a professor and faculty member at University of Houston/Clear Lake for 26 years. He received the President's Distinguished Research Award and a s a Professor Emeritus still conducted research on DNA structure. Bob is survived by his: loving wife of 47 years, Star; daughter, Karen Young and her husband Michael Young; son, Rand Hopkins and his wife, Julie; brother, James; grandchildren, Sienna and Reed Hopkins, Macy and Evan Young. Bob loved fine wine, sailboat racing and the outdoors including adventure travel and summers on Cape Cod. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 4:00 pm at University of Houston/Clear Lake, Bayou Building Garden Room. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in Bob's memory to: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 5005 Mitchelldale, Suite 115, Houston, TX 77092 or Robert and Star Hopkins Endowed Scholarship at the University of Houston/Clear Lake (Call the UHCL Development Office at 281-283-2021 for information).
