Died: December 20, 2020; Glendale, Arizona

GLENDALE, Ariz. – David Norman Carlsen, formerly of Princeton, IL, went to be with His Lord on Sunday, December 20, 2020, in Glendale, Arizona.

Born in Johnstown, PA on January 10, 1951, David's parents were his father Rev. Olaf Carlsen and his mother Marion Harvie Carlsen. David's parents served in pastorates throughout Pennsylvania. After graduating from Panther Valley High School, Lansford, PA, David followed the family tradition and attended Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, IL, where he graduated in 1971. He then attended Northern Illinois University, where he met his wife, Judy.David and Judy (Rushton) were married in DeKalb, IL, on May 11, 1974.

After 2 years as a Minister of Youth & Music in suburban Akron, Ohio, David returned to IL to attend Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, IL. He graduated with a Master?s of Divinity in 1979 and then moved to northeast Iowa, where he served as a pastor for 5 years. During that time, he was ordained with the Evangelical Free Church of America. Throughout his career as a senior pastor, David served churches in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. He enjoyed preaching and teaching adult Sunday school classes, but he loved to sing praises to God – especially solos.

David is survived by his wife, Judy Carlsen; his sister, Lois Blaesing (Brian); sister-in-law, Adeline Amato-Carlsen; daughter ,Bethany Johnsen (Christopher); and three grandchildren, Reed David, Parker James and Emelia CarliRae.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother; and sister, Eunice Carlsen.

A private memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at Camino del Sol Funeral Home, Sun City West, AZ.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate gifts to be sent to Alzheimer's Association or Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. Samaritan's Purse provides spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world.
