WYANET – James Nathan Peterson, "Papa Pete," 57, of Wyanet, Illinois passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the farm.

He was born May 19, 1964 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, the son of Harold Thomas and Lois (Brieser) Peterson.

James married Cathy Hayes November 24, 1990 at the Wyanet United Methodist Church. She survives in Wyanet.

He is also survived by three children: Justin Peterson, Austin (Jordan) Peterson, and Torri (Isay Angulo) Peterson; his mother, Lois Peterson, and his father, Tom Peterson; two grandchildren, Ainsley Peterson and Mac Peterson; one brother, David (Holly) Peterson, and nieces, Emily (Jacob) Dueth, Abigail Peterson, Brittany (Bobbie) Gould, Cydney Hayes, and Lori Dawson.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Howard and Madge Brieser; paternal grandparents, Harold and Doris Peterson; his uncle, Tom and aunt Marian Bertram; uncle William "Bill" Brieser; and niece, Kristina Dawson.

He graduated from Wyanet High School with the Class of 1983 and from Blackhawk East in 1985.

James worked at LCN in Princeton for 25 years. He was a lifelong farmer and was a Wyffels Seed Representative.

He was a member of the Wyanet Methodist Church, the Farm Bureau, and the NRA. He was a Bureau Valley FFA supporter and Bureau County 4-H Sale of Champions supporter.

James enjoyed cooking for friends and family, hunting, the outdoors, having a cold Budweiser in the garage and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

A visitation will be held Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, Illinois. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2021 at Wyanet United Methodist Church, Wyanet, Illinois with Pastor Kelly McKune officiating. Burial will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery, Wyanet.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bureau County 4H Extension, American Heart Association, or the Blackhawk East Livestock Judging Fund.
