LINCOLNVILLE - Cyrene Dean Slegona, 88, died June 9, 2010, with her family and friends by her side, at Waldo County Hospital Hospice, Belfast. She was born April 16, 1922, in Glendale, N.J., the eighth child of Elizabeth Black and Edwin Ruthrin Foster. She married Frank C. Slegona, Nov. 25, 1939. They had three children and moved from New Jersey to Lincolnville in 1948. She was active in the Grange, PTA and started a Sunday school program for Lincolnville United Christian Church. The program provided social activities for the young people of the town. The family returned to New Jersey for a number of years, summering at their farm. Cyrene and Frank retired to Lincolnville in 1983. She again became active in the Lincolnville church and other community organizations. Their gardening and culinary activities were recognized in several publications and two books published on the history of Lincolnville and the Camden area. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2009. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Cyrene Ann Slegona and husband, Dr. Arnold Fuchs, of Gorham and Frances Rice and husband, George, of Broomfield, Colo.; and grandchildren, Andrew Rice and wife, Kathy, of Lakewood, Colo., and daughters, Lauren and Kaitlyn, and Kimberly Rice Berg and husband, Eric, of Seattle and daughter, Emma Cyrene. A son, Albert predeceased her. A celebration of the life of Cyrene and Albert will be held 1 p.m. Aug. 7 at Lincolnville United Christian Church. We remember Cyrene as a dear lady and gracious hostess. Our visits to the farm felt like a trip back in time to a magical place. Our thoughts are with Frank and daughters Cyrene and Frances as they look back on Cyrene's time on this earth. Blessings to all.
