OLD TOWN - Cheryl Jean LeVasseur, 64, died May 30, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. She was born March 6, 1947, in Old Town, a daughter of Henry and Rita (Rand) LeVasseur. Cheryl attended Old Town schools and graduated from Old Town High School in 1965. She was a licensed insurance agent and notary public for 37 years. Cheryl was a lifelong learner and took several classes at the University of Maine, as well as her own research through tapes and books on various subjects, especially foreign language. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and oil painting. In recent years she found a passion teaching Sunday school and helping youngsters prepare for their First Communion and Confirmation alongside her dear cousin, Pam Dunphy. She is survived her mother, Rita LeVasseur of Old Town; two brothers, Glenn LeVasseur and his significant other, Nancy Michaud, of Old Town, and Timothy LeVasseur and his wife, Deb, of Clinton; a niece, Amber LeVasseur of Portland; aunt, Peggy Languette of Oakland; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Henry, in 1991. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church, Old Town. Private committal services will be at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. In memory of Cheryl, those who wish may donate to Old Town Animal Orphanage, P.O. Box 565, Orono, ME 04473. Dear Aunt Rita, Glenn and Tim,

Faith, Cyndi, Amanda and I express our condolences for your loss. Cheryl was always a joyful cousin and a pleasure to be with, especially when we visited you both last fall. We will miss her, but know she is in a better place where there is no sickness, pain or sorrow.

Love

My heartfelt sympathy goes to Cheryl's family. While I haven't seen her in many years, every time I think of Cheryl I smile because I remember her as the beautiful and caring person that sat in front of me in many classes at OTHS; she was the shortest girl in our class and I was the tallest. I had the privilege of sitting behind her in homeroom and many classes because they seated us alphabetical order. May God give you comfort, bless your family with wonderful memories and hold you close.
