Barbara A. Wentworth

BUCKSPORT - Barbara A. (Wight) Wentworth, 88, the wife of Charles F. Wentworth Sr., died peacefully at home after a brief illness on Friday, April 3, 2015.

She was born in Berlin, N.H. on February 7, 1927, the daughter of the late Arthur Wight and Margaret (Hachey) Wight. She graduated from Bucksport High School in 1945.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who spent much of her life as a loving homemaker.

She was a devout Catholic, giving much of her time to the service of her church, St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Bucksport as a Eucharistic minister, member of the ladies group, and a lifetime communicant. She loved to knit, play golf, travel with husband Charles, play Bridge as well as Scat, and she was a wonderful cook. She was very involved with the Bucksport Mill Fitness Center morning group.

She was predeceased by sisters Hazel Goudreau, Margaret Marshall, Alberta St. John, Doris Calvert, Pauline Eastman, and June Dorion. She was also predeceased by brothers Alton Wight, Kenneth Wight, Michael Wight, and Arthur Wight.

She is survived by husband Charles, a daughter, Susan Curtis of Portland, Maine, sons Charles Wentworth Jr. and wife Brigid of Verona Island, John and wife Jane of Pownal, Daniel and wife Stormi of Verona Island, son James and wife Sue also of Verona Island, and sister in law Tina Wentworth of Bucksport.

Barbara was deeply loved by all her grandchildren, Robbie Curtis, Kristen Spiller, Katie Gillespie, Cory Johnson, Heather Lanpher, Rachael Wentworth, Mary Wentworth, Martin Wentworth, Maggie Wentworth, Joe Wentworth, Laura Wentworth, John Wentworth II, Kate Wentworth, James Wentworth, Jason Wentworth, Andrew Wentworth, Peter Wentworth, Cameron Wentworth, and Michael Wentworth. Barbara was predeceased by grandson George M. Wentworth. Barbara also had 16 great-grandchildren.

The Wentworth family invites relatives and friends to a celebration of Barbara's life Monday, April 6, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home in Bucksport from 5p.m. to 7p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Tuesday, April 7, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Olusola Adewole will officiate the mass. She will be interred at the St.Vincent de Paul Cemetery in Bucksport later this spring.
