Sarah Jane Gooch Conrad, 82, of Jasper, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital, Jasper. She was born on July 29, 1930, in Beaumont, to Lera McCree Gooch and Philander Davis Gooch. Sarah enjoyed playing golf and working in the garden with her flowers. She was a former alderman in Nome, Texas and loved playing dominoes with the ladies at Nome Baptist Church and Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was a caring and loving woman yet spunky and determined; but, most of all, she loved her family. Survivors include her husband, Clarence C. Conrad; daughter, Susan Jarrell and her husband, Marty, of Sour Lake; granddaughter, Taryn Hunley and her husband, Justin, of Troop; great-grandchildren, Troy Conrad Hunley and Sarah Kaitlyn Hunley; sister, Lera Stalnaker of Spartenburg, South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Norman Gooch and Will Davis Gooch. A gathering of Mrs. Conrad's family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2013, at Broussards. Her committal was held at Broussard's Crematorium, Beaumont. Susan, I am so very sorry to hear of your mother's death. She and my mother, Margaret Poole were good friends for many years. She and my mother are surely visiting right now in heaven.

SARAH AND I WERE GRADUATING CLASSMATES AT SPHS AND REMAINED FRIENDS FOR ALL THOSE YEARS. SHE WAS A DELIGHTFUL PERSON AND OUR MANY CLASSMATES ENJOYED HER FAITHFUL ATTENTION TO REUNIONS AND GET-TOGETHERS AND THE UNOFFICIAL TITLE AS CLASS HISTORIAN.
